Sedgefield Spar is the latest victim of an armed robbery. According to reports, the robbers entered the shop shortly after 9PM on Saturday night (10 March 2012) during cash-up and held staff at gunpoint. When the staff wanted to lock up, 3 men entered the shop and threatened to shoot if they didn’t co- operate. According to reports, the 3 men knew exactly where the money was, but couldn’t access all of the day’s takings.
The robbers apparently instructed one of the manager’s to strip down naked so that he couldn’t chase after them. They took a large amount of money (an estimated R50 000) and fled the scene.
The suspects are still at large. After the robbery, there was a strong police presence in town with police vans from Knysna assisting the Sedgefield Police in doing patrols. A crowd gathered around the area, speculating and asking around for information. No one was injured.
