The concept of the SLOW FESTIVAL is to showcase the relaxed lifestyle of Sedgefield. It’s the highlight of the town’s calendar and offers a myriad of fabulous fun and fantastic family events. This One of a Kind Festival is a celebration of all things that make Sedgefield so great to live in and to visit. These three days of festivities are created especially for families, friends and the town to celebrate together and show off what it really means to live in a little holiday town of note.
For the sport enthusiasts there’s the Goukamma Traverse Trail Run- 18kms of one of the Garden Route’s most scenically beautiful runs, the Family Fun Run- 5kms along the edge of the Sedge lagoon and the Tour de Lente MTB Challenge which takes you out of Sedge and up and over Cloud 9 and beyond. The Go Slow Paragliding Competition also brings great excitement as entrants come to fly here from all over the world.
How about some vintage family fun at the Drive In on a Friday and Saturday night? When last did you go and park your car under a big screen and watch a great movie?
New on the program and jam-packed with fun during this years’ Fest, was the ‘Anything That Floats’ competition- good, wet fun which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. 2013’s competition will be no exception… Come and be a spectator or be a part of the action with your own homemade water fairing vessel. There are some excellent prizes but everyone wins because the experience is priceless!
For the children there’s the great dash for Easter eggs that are dropped from a motorized paraglider onto the beach in the Easter Bunny Beach Fling, looking for artistic sand talent in the Sand Sculpting Challenge and flying kites of all shapes and sizes in the Slow Kite Festival.
For the Art lovers, Art in the Park and the local galleries will have their doors open for all those who appreciate beauty captured by our very talented local artists.
The Village Green houses the heart of the festivities with Slow Food & Wine Village, quality arts and crafts stalls to browse and buy from. It’s also the platform from which the Slow Festival showcases the local talent of our buskers, musicians, street artists and thespians to titillate even the most jaded of locals and visiting city folk.
You’ve never experienced a Street Parade like the Slow Festival Amazing Creatures and Band Parade. Come and spot a wonderful array of giant, brightly coloured and eye-catching creatures, vibrant field marching bands and many of the locals dressed up in their frippery and finery. See Mr and Mrs Forget Me Not on a decadently decorated donkey cart, follow the marching band through the main streets of Sedgefield and join us on the Village Green for a hearty meal and a good glass of wine. Come and sit around a fire and share in the nostalgia of how life was before television, computers and cell phones.
Our beloved furry companions are not neglected, how could they be? Sedgefield is one of the most pet friendly holiday destinations that our country has to offer so please join us for The Dog Walk, Talk and Show. This walk around the Island is super scenic and the easiest of routes for any aged animal or human and the fun show that follows offers some great prizes for our canine friends!
The full program will have loads more exciting events to participate in and enjoy! So don’t miss out on the best weekend of fun along the Garden Route- The Easter Weekend of 2013 is simply the most delightful time to be in Sedgefield.
