GEORGE – Bernadette Botha, 14-year old pupil of Outeniqua High has written her way to the top, outshining more than 1000 entries in her division of the Bloemfontein Skrywersvereniging writing competition. This highly prized title and trophy usually finds its way to High School DF Malan, whose participants have won this title in the Junior Category for a consecutive number of years. This year, however, Bernedette Botha has ensured that the trophy comes home to High School Outeniqua, making not only family, peers and school proud, but having the Town of George celebrate this great accomplishment too!
It was by mere happenstance that Bernedette came to hear of this competition when Mrs Haupt, her Grade 8 Afrikaans teacher encouraged a fellow classmate to enter. Once sold on the idea of entering, she then submitted her short story two weeks later and today she is one of George’s most talented future young authors.
Look 4 it George is especially excited about this wonderful achievement as we celebrate the love for reading and creative writing, in our upcoming Young Authors competition that will be launched on 1 July 2013. Keep an eye out for more details.
