The George Municipality has advised that the Eskom electricity supply is currently off, as the fire has engulfed the area in which the 66V electricity line is located. This power line supplies the village and until the damage is assessed and the lines are checked and repaired wherever necessary, the town will be left in the dark.
Electrotechnical Chief Kevin Grünewald said that they hope for little damage to the wooden poles. If the damage is extensive, the power may be out for quite some time. They have switched on the Wilderness CBD via a limited supply from the George network according to Grünewald.
“Eskom cannot access the area to assess the damage and do repairs until the fire is brought under control.”
